Case Studies
Cowboy Coders' engineers have taken on the kind of software problems that only show up at scale — enterprise supply chains, legacy modernizations, and commission systems that stalled out under other vendors. Client details below are described generically where confidentiality applies, but every engagement is real.
A Major Aerospace Manufacturer — Enterprise Parts Tracking & Sales Intelligence
Challenge
A large aircraft manufacturer needed to track every part across dozens of aircraft in simultaneous production, a job being handled by 14 separate, disconnected legacy programs. Separately, the sales organization had no reliable way to retain institutional knowledge on its most important global accounts.
What We Did
Led a team enhancing the company's supply chain management software, and designed and built “Keep Up To Date,” an item-management system responsible for tracking every part across all aircraft in production. Separately, built a client-intelligence tool for the sales department that maintained detailed profiles on major accounts, giving teams reliable, searchable access to information on hundreds of contacts worldwide.
Outcome
Fourteen redundant legacy programs consolidated into a single system of record, and a durable, searchable knowledge base of institutional relationships for the sales organization.
A Major Public Utility — Legacy Modernization & Billing Platform
Challenge
The client's IT department was running on an aging VB.Net stack, and a critical billing system modernization project was already 100 days behind schedule.
What We Did
Upgraded the client's IT department from VB.Net to C#, and designed a turnkey billing system built on a RESTful API with an Oracle database backend.
Outcome
Took the project from 100 days behind schedule to ahead of schedule within one month.
A National Health Insurance Group — Rescuing a Stalled Commission Platform
Challenge
The client brought us in to troubleshoot a commission-processing platform that was in its sixth month of what had been contracted as a three-month development cycle. Its IT department ran a hybrid of C# and VB.Net Windows applications across more than a dozen affiliated insurance groups, with core system knowledge concentrated in an AS400-based team unfamiliar with the new stack.
What We Did
Rewrote the stored procedures and billing logic driving cashless fund transfers between accounts across the affiliated insurance groups, resolved the defects blocking the platform's launch, and trained the client's AS400-based IT staff in MS SQL so they could maintain the system going forward.
Outcome
Delivered a commission-processing system that had stalled for three months past its original deadline, and left the client's own team equipped to maintain it independently.
